Micron samples 128Gbit NAND made on a 16nm process
Micron Technology is sampling 128Gbit multilevel cell NAND flash devices manufactured on a 16nm process.
According to the company, the 16nm node is not only the leading flash process, but also the most advanced processing node for any sampling semiconductor.
The 128Gbit devices are targeted at applications like solid state drives for the consumer market, removable storage devices, tablets, mobile handsets and data centre storage.
"Micron's dedicated team of engineers has worked tirelessly to introduce the world's smallest and most advanced flash manufacturing technology," said Glen Hawk, vice president of Micron's NAND solutions group. "Our customers continually ask for higher capacities in smaller form factors, and this next generation process node allows Micron to lead the market in meeting those demands."
Micron plans to be in full production with the 128Gbit part towards the end of 2013. At the same time, it is developing a line of solid state drives featuring the part and expects to ship these in 2014.
